TikTok now allows users of the app to turn on or off subtitles on all videos on the social network.
The social network has revealed an important innovation regarding the subtitles of its videos. TikTok now makes it easy for all its users to watch videos with automatically generated subtitles.
The existing subtitle feature, for example, requires TikTok video creators to enable auto-generated captions on their video before they are published.
Then the availability of these subtitles depends entirely on the video creator without forgetting to activate it. If unfortunately, the creator forgot to enable subtitles, there is no way to add it after publishing. The only solution to fix the problem after that was to delete the post and start over.
This system was particularly annoying for deaf or hard of hearing users, who regularly had to require the platform’s creators to activate subtitles for each video. So TikTok decided to fix all this by releasing an update that adds the ability for users to activate subtitles themselves. For all platform videos. Note that TikTok extends this functionality to video captions
and descriptions, which can also be translated automatically.
Automatic translations will initially be available in English, Portuguese, German, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and Turkish.
